Tesla

Tesla Motors is a company that was founded in Silicon Valley in 2003. The company specializes in producing high end electric vehicles. The two people who were responsible for the formation of the company include San Carlos, Martin Eberhard, and Marc Tarpenning. The company uses a team of workers who are comprised of automobile engineers, electrical engineers, and computer technicians. Despite the fact that the company was named after Nikola Tesla, a famous inventor who died in relative obscurity, there is no evidence that the company either honors or recognizes Nikola Tesla or his descendants other than by their name.

Like many start-up companies, Tesla Motors does not have a large number of employees. As of this writing, there are a total of 160. The chief product that the company is working on is the Tesla Roadster. The company's tag line is to "Burn rubber, not gasoline." The financing for the company came from none other than Elon Musk, a multi-millionaire who is the founder of Paypal and a host of other companies. In addition to Elon Musk, other important people who provided financing for the company include Larry Page and Sergey Brin, the founders of Google, and Jeff Skoll, who was previously a president of eBay.

The project with which the company is currently spending all its resources is the Tesla Roadster. While this vehicle is a sports car, what separates it from traditional sports cars such as Ferrari, Porsche, or Lamborghini is the fact that this car is 100% electric. It does not use gasoline in any form, and its performance is very impressive. In fact, the Tesla Roadster can go from 0 to 60 in 3.9 seconds, allowing it to nearly match the Enzo Ferrari in terms of performance. The company has worked hard on this vehicle, and they unveiled it to the public for the first time in 2006.

The company is expected to put the car in production by the end of 2007. So far, the demand for this vehicle has been quite high, and it has put to rest claims that the public is not ready for an electric car. Due to the increasing cost of gasoline, the founders of Tesla Motors expect that their will be a large demand in the near future for electric vehicles that are friendly towards the environment. Well over 300 pre-orders have been made for the Tesla Roadster, and this is expected to bring in significant profits to the company.

While the company wants to produce cars which are gasoline free and friendly towards the environment, some have criticized them for their high prices. The Tesla Roadster has a price which is comparable to the Ferrari, putting it outside the range of most people. However, the company has stated it plans to design a sedan in the next four years. However, even this model is expected to be more than $50,000, more than the annual salary of the average American. Despite this, the company says that will eventually produce a model that is much more affordable.
