Ferrari F50

To mark the fifty years of life, Ferrari decided to celebrate in style by releasing the Ferrari F50 the powerful super-car successor to the F40 and 288 GTO. Little was changed from the style of racing to street driving when this car was first introduced and it was made for nothing more than pure high speed enjoyment. Hence, it was highly popular with those who managed to come up with the purchase price.

The rigidly designed chassis made new Ferrari F50 owners quiver with excitement. There was no sub-framing on the Ferrari F50 at all, which made for a solid and heavily durable chassis. The central tub frame held the motor and transmission and they acted as the rear stabilization for the entire car, even going as far as to hold the rear suspension. This was only made finer with the high quality braking system and overall aerodynamic shape.

The idea to race the Ferrari F50 was a bit short sighted. All of the plans were laid and one prototype race car was constructed. In the end, there was not enough there to create the race car that needed to be. So the prototype was sold to a Japanese business man who houses it with his private collection of exotics where it remains to this day.

Because of the limited number of produced models, the Ferrari F50 is one of the rarest of all Ferrari models. Prime examples of this car can sell for one million or more dollars. Most of the lasting examples are owned by collectors and they rarely see the light of day.

Powering the Ferrari F50 was the V12 65 degree engine. With aluminum heads and five valves per cylinder, it was easily one of the fastest cars of its day. It was capable of reaching sixty miles per hour in 2.9 seconds and had a top speed of right around two hundred seventy miles per hour.

To this day, the Ferrari F50 is one of the most highly sought after Ferraris ever produced. The defunct racing dream only adds to the mystique of the car, and more and more people are putting out the feelers to find one that someone is willing to part with. This of course means a hefty price tag, but that is a small price to pay to own a piece of history. Very little could match the appeal of the Ferrari F50.
