In 1979 the Ferrari 308 came out of the factory and became an overnight success. Part of this success was due to the television show Magnum PI, where Magnum drove the Ferrari 308 during his duties as a private investigator. In all honesty it was not a real Ferrari 308 but nothing more than a shell car, but the point is, the appearance in a television program garnered a lot of publicity for the company and the car itself. Sales skyrocketed in what seems to be an overnight success story.

The Ferrari 308 was not the finest example that ever came out of Italy, but it was popular nonetheless. The body style was a bit tight for many peoples taste, and it was not nearly as aerodynamic as its successors, but that all did little to deter the throngs of hungry customers. The Ferrari 308 lacked some of the power of newer and older models, but it still blew away anything made in the US during the time.
